THE TSIRIBIHINA RIVER AND THE TSINGY OF BEMARAHA 1st day: PARIS/ANTANANARIVO On your getting off the plane at the airport, you are met by Holidays Madagascar’s representatives then you’ll be presented your stay programme and given your travel documents. Transfer to your hotel where you’ll deposit your luggage, then you’ll go for a drive round the town. Independent lunch by midday and in the afternoon continuation of the tour of Antananarivo « the city with one thousand warriors ». Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel 2nd day: ANTANANARIVO/ANTSIRABE/MIANDRIVAZO (420 km) Departure from Antananarivo in the morning to get to Miandrivazo via Antsirabe. On the road, across undulating hills, plains and ricefield form a coloured mosaic like a giant's patchwork. At Ambatolampy, a halt to visit a workshop salvaging aluminium to transform it into diverse cookery utensils and pots. Arrival at Antsirabe, the spa, by midday. Independent lunch. Continuation toward Miandrivazo after lunch. Set in between the Bongolava chain in the East and the plateau of Bemahara in the west, Miandrivazo is a very rich region. It's an area producing tobacco, beans and peanuts, a place for breeding cattle and pigs. Arrival at Miandrivazo in the early evening. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel. 3rd day: MIANDRIVAZO/ MASEKAMPY/ANOSINAMPELA Transfer to Masekampy pier and embarking in a barge, means of transport of tobacco dating from colonisation. After crossing the Mahajilo River « that makes you strong » you begin going down the Tsiribihina River. Luxuriant vegetation in the area around the River: mango trees, tamarinds, aquatic bamboo ... but let us not neglect the fauna that can be met all along the cruise like: the « Propithecus Verreauxi » or « Sifaka », the teal (wild duck) – the humped duck, and the guinea – fowl ... If you are a bit lucky you'll be able to see the crocodiles that are sunbathing on the bank of the river. Arrival at Anosinampela in the late afternoon. Full board BIVOUAC. 4th day: ANOSINAMPELA/BEGIDRO/TSARAONTANA Before continuing going down the river, you can't miss the natural swimming-pool Anosinampela 80 meters from the bank of the river. Very fresh water is there for your swimming while you are admiring the beautiful waterfall that is falling over your head. After a good swim, you go on with your tour. A halt to visit Begidro, a village where you'll have the opportunity to discover the simple and authentic daily life of the riverside residents. Arrival at Tsaraontana in the early evening. Night activities would be planned at the end of the day. With a relaxing atmosphere owing to « Sakalava » traditional danses and songs. The « Sakalava » are the dominating ethnic group in this Western part of the island. Full board BIVOUAC. 5th day : TSARAONTANA/BELO TSIRIBIHINA/BEKOPAKA The going down of the river ends here. You'll soon get to Beraketa pier. Passing on a big sandbank, the area with every seven years the famous Sakalava tradition called « Fitampoha » or relic bath takes place. After lunch, continuation on the track to get to Bekopaka. Arrival in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel. 6th day : BEKOPAKA Day spent in visiting the Tsingy of Bemaraha National Park with its 157,710 ha. The Tsingy or « sharp rocks » are calcareus cathedrals interrupted by dried up thick forests: listed as Unesco World Heritage Site. Numerous circuits can be performed, with abundant fauna and flora species: lemurs like the sifaka (Propithecus verreauxi), the aye aye (Daubentonia Madagascariensis), birds, the fishing Eagle or « Ankoay ». You can also find « Musa Perrieri », the unique endemic banana tree of Madagascar. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel. 7th day : BEKOPAKA/BELO TSIRIBIHINA/MORONDAVA Driving to Morondava. On your tour, discovering the Sakalava tombs, the royal burial places decorated with statuettes each of them having a particular meaning. Lunch at Belo sur Tsiribihina, before reaching Morondava, three main villages will be crossed: Amboainalika, Behamitsy, and Andimaka After lunch, continuation on the track with the passing of the baobab lane in the late evening to admire the sunset. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel. 8th day : MORONDAVA/ANTANANARIVO Transfer to Morondava airport to fly to Antananarivo.
